The work Partituur can be read as a piece of music, in which a sound, mood or atmosphere resonates in each color area. This elongated painting shows shades of color that are painted in both hard contrasts and smooth transitions. Just as music combines tones into a melody, so color is the mutual correspondence of color tones, which exist only in relation to each other.
